Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Sumitomo Dunlop) is owned by Japanese listed company Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd (SRI), situated in Kobe, Japan. SRI is one of the leading premium manufacturers of automotive tyres and industrial rubber products in the world. We became part of Sumitomo Rubber Industries at the beginning of 2014. Our Head Office is situated in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal. Our Factory is situated in Ladysmith also in Kwa Zulu Natal. The Plant was built in 1973. At the Factory we manufacture Passenger Car Tyres, Sport Utility Vehicle, Light Truck Tyres and Truck and Bus Radial which are sold in South Africa and exported across Africa and other countries. SRI operates four factories in Japan and eight overseas factories. SRI has invested in SRSA, which has included the building of a Greenfields Truck Factory which was opened on the 2nd October 2018. To ensure the success and appropriate skilling we partnered with SRI Miyazaki Factory where a team was given the opportunity to attend training at the Miyazaki Factory.

We manufacture and sell Falken, Sumitomo and our ikonic Dunlop Brand. Sumitomo tyres is the premium export brand of SRI. Our brands combine precision engineering and superior quality that has seen us achieve success in some of the most demanding export markets worldwide. We have sales offices and warehousing across South Africa located in 6 cities with the largest in Johannesburg. Our sales operations are made up of domestic sales, International Business into Africa and Original Equipment. Our Retail Channel consists of our flagship franchise Dunlop Zone with our Composite Channel we know as Dunlop Express and our Informal Channel our Dunlop Zone. Out truck tyre sales supported by our Dunlop Commercial Channel. With the support of SRI we have established a solid Original Equipment business partnering with the likes of Toyota, VW, Ford and Nissan. We bring over 100 years of technical expertise and manufacturing experience to Africa, backed by the global reputation and resources of SRI, one of the most influential businesses conglomerates in the world. We are 1560 strong, a resilient culture, harnessing our diverse strengths equipped to face our global challenges. Most of our employees are based at our Factory with a head count of 1090.
